Gerhard erasmus was born on October 16, 1986 in Windhoek, Namibia. He is a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper who played for the Namibia national cricket team between 2004 and 2012. He made his international debut against Kenya in 2004 and his last appearance was against Zimbabwe in 2012.

 

Erasmus first came to prominence as a 20-year old when he helped Namibia win the CSA World Cricket League Division Two tournament in England in 2003. He then made his first-class debut for Namibia against South Africa later that year. In 2004, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Kenya. Erasmus scored 77 runs from 85 balls, helping Namibia to victory by four runs. His success at international level saw him named as the best young player at the 2005 African Cricket Awards.

 

In 2006, Erasmus helped Namibia secure their place in the 2007 World Cup Qualifier tournament by scoring 126 runs batting at number seven during their Group A campaign which ended with a victory over Uganda. However, they were eliminated from the competition after losing to Kenya and Zambia consecutively.

 

Erasmus continued to score runs for Namibia both domestically and internationally throughout 2007 and 2008; however, it wasn’t until 2009 that he really started to make an impact on the international stage.
