Dhananjaya de Silva is a Sri Lankan cricketer who is currently playing for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL). Dhananjaya made headlines when he was selected to play for the Sri Lanka national cricket team in the One Day International (ODI) series against India. Dhananjaya was born on 4th January 1992, in Welikanda, a suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He started playing cricket at a very young age and quickly became one of the best players in his country. In addition to his cricket career, Dhananjaya is also a student and is currently studying Business Administration at the University of Western Australia. Dhananjaya de Silva is a Sri Lankan cricket player. He has played Tests, ODIs and T20s for Sri Lanka. De Silva made his One Day International (ODI) debut in October 2006 against Bangladesh and his Test debut in November 2006 against India.

Born on 25th December 1992 to a cricketing family, Dhananjaya attended Wimbledon Camps in 2006 and 2007 where he played for the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 teams. He made his first-class debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club against Matara Cricket Club at the age of 18. In 2013/14 season he was picked up by Colombo Cricket Club and scored heavily in both first class and List A matches as they finished runners-up in the LPL Premier League. He also captained the side during this time and led them to victory in the final of the 2016–17 Premier Trophy which is Sri Lanka’s top domestic tournament.

Known for his powerful batting and charismatic personality, Dhananjaya has quickly become a fan favorite around the world. His impressive record in various playing formats has seen him named as one of ESPNcricinfo’s “30 under 30” players to watch out for in 2018.

He was part of the Sri Lanka team which won the 2011 ICC World Cup. De Silva is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler.

De Silva was born on 2 December 1992 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He began playing cricket at a young age and soon became good enough to play for the district side. In 2009, he made his first-class debut for Kandy Cricket Club and quickly established himself as one of their best batsmen. In 2011, he was named captain of the club and helped them win the Premier League Tournament that year.
He also played for Sinhalese Sports Club in first-class cricket until 2015 when he joined up with the national team. De Silva made his international debut in October 2015 against Pakistan and went on to play 22 Tests, 110 ODIs, nine T20Is and three List A games for Sri Lanka before retiring from international cricket in December 2018.

De Silva is married to Aishwarya De Silva and they have two children together – Damitha de Silva and Dhanusha de Silva.
