Steven Peter Devereux Smith is an Australian cricketer who has played for both Australia and New Zealand. He made his debut for Australia in November 2016, playing against India. He has also played for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. He has been a regular member of the Australian cricket team .

Smith has been in controversies before; most notably, when he was arrested in May 2018 on suspicion of assaulting a woman. Steven Peter Devereux Smith was born on the 4th of July, 1988 in Sydney, Australia. He is a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who plays for Hampshire.

Smith made his first-class debut for New South Wales against Tasmania at the age of 18. He has since played for several other Australian states as well as Hampshire in England. In all he has scored over 8,000 runs and taken more than 1,000 catches in first-class cricket. He also represented Australia at Under-19 level and played in two One Day Internationals (ODIs).

Smith’s professional career began in 2008 when he signed a contract with Hampshire. He spent four seasons with the team before transferring to Sussex in 2013. He spent two seasons with Sussex before returning to Hampshire during the 2017 season.

Smith has been involved in several controversies during his career. In 2010 he was caught on camera drinking while driving and received a suspended sentence and six penalty points on his license; this was followed by an incident where he threatened a female street cleaner with a knife after she refused to move his car while he smoked; this charge was later dropped. In 2016 Smith was fined £10,000 after testing positive for cocaine following an international match against Ireland; this led to him being banned from playing international cricket for 12 months. He currently plays for Surrey. Steven Smith has played international cricket since 2006 and has represented Australia in a total of 107 matches. Smith’s career has been plagued with controversies, starting with his arrest for assault after an incident at a nightclub in January 2006. This charge was later dropped but he was banned from playing international cricket for six months as a result. In February 2007, Smith was reported to have thrown a glass at then Australian captain Ricky Ponting during their encounter in the Perth Test match.
