Ashen Bandara is a Sri Lankan cricketer who has been playing international cricket since 2009. He made his ODI debut in December 2009 and his T20I debut in October 2010. He made his Test debut in July 2017. Born on 21st October, 1988 in Hambantota District, Ashen Bandara had an illustrious cricketing career from a young age. Starting off with district level cricket, he quickly moved up the ranks and represented Sri Lanka at Under-19 level before making his ODI and Test debuts. Early life and career of

Ashen Bandara was born on January 5, 1986 in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. Ashen Bandara played first-class cricket for the Ratnapura Cricket Club and later represented Colombo Cricket Club. He is a right-handed batsman and wicketkeeper.

In 2007, Ashen Bandara made his debut for the Sri Lanka national cricket team in a One Day International against Bangladesh. He scored a century in that game and went on to score another century against India in the Asia Cup that year. In 2009, he was selected for the World Twenty20 tournament but did not make an appearance.

In 2010, Ashen Bandara was part of the Sri Lankan team which won the Twenty20 World Cup. He scored 41 runs in their final match against Australia to help his team qualify for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Ashen Bandara played in all seven of Sri Lanka’s matches at the 2011 Cricket World Cup and scored 84 runs at an average of 18.66 with two half centuries and one century. At the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, he made his highest score to date with 139 not out during Sri Lanka’s campaign which ended in a semifinal loss to India.

Ashen Bandara made his first-class debut for Nondescripts Cricket Club against Colts Cricket Club at the age of just 18 years and 248 days, on 17th of August 2002. Three years later, on 8th of September 2005, he made his List A debut against Tamil Union Cricket Association at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.

In 2006, Ashen Bandara toured England with the Sri Lanka A team where he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Kent at the County Ground, Canterbury. He also played in two matches of the ICC Intercontinental Cup where Sri Lanka finished as runners up to Bangladesh. In 2007, Ashen Bandara scored his maiden first-class century against Southern Province at Polonnaruwa Sports Club Ground. In 2009, Ashen Bandara helped Sri Lanka win their first ever ICC World Twenty20 title by scoring 157 runs from 5 matches including an innings of 76 not out against Kenya at Mohali Stadium in India.

In January 2010 it was announced that Ashen Bandara had signed a three year contract with English county side Sussex County Cricket Club ahead of the 2010 season.
