Yannic Cariah West, who is a professional cricket player and son of the late Ghanian cricketer Enoch West, has been playing for domestic teams in Zimbabwe and South Africa. He made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2016. In February 2018, he was named as captain of the Zimbabwe national side for the 2018 Africa T20 Championship. He made his first-class debut for ZIM in January 2019.
West was born on 18 November 1997 in Harare, Zimbabwe to an English mother and a Ghanaian father. He attended St Bede’s College, Harare before moving to Durban, South Africa to play cricket with the Border Bulldogs Cricket Club. He played for Natal Titans between 2017 and 2020 and then moved to Cape Town to play for Western Province from 2021 onwards. In September 2018, he was named in the squad for Zimbabwe’s One Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. However, he did not appear in any matches during this series.
West made his international debut for Zimbabwe in February 2018, during their tour of South Africa. He made five appearances during this tour and scored 129 runs at an average of 47.33 batting second behind Hamilton Masakadza in the batting order. In October 2018, he was named captain of the Zimbabwe national side for the 2018 Africa T20 Championship which will be hosted by Kenya later that month.
