Lahiru Kumara was born on November 18, 1990 in the town of Kandy in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. He is a left-handed batsman and an occasional right arm off spin bowler.

He made his first-class debut for Ragama Cricket Club in December 2006 at the age of 16. He scored 114 runs in the first innings and took 2 wickets in the second. In January 2007 he was signed by Western Province Cricket Club and played in two more first-class matches that year, scoring 159 runs and taking 5 wickets. Lahiru made his List A debut for Western Province against National Bank of Sri Lanka Cricket at R Premadasa Stadium on February 10, 2007. He scored 60 runs from 112 balls, with 4 fours and 1 six, helping Western Province to win by 191 runs. Lahiru Kumara was born in Sri Lanka on 28th October 1995. Lahiru Kumara is currently a cricketer playing for the Kandy District Cricket Club. He made his debut at an international level in March 2016 against India. Lahiru Kumara has already amassed over 100 first class runs and 20 wickets in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL). He was signed by the Kochi Tuskers Kerala based T-League side for the 2018–19 season.

Lahiru Kumara was born on the 4th of October, 1994 in Galle. Lahiru Kumara has always had a love for cricket and he started playing at an early age. He attended Dambulla National School before moving to Royal College, Colombo to continue his studies.

Lahiru Kumara became the latest Sri Lanka cricketer to be banned for ball-tampering when he was caught on camera using sandpaper during the second Test against India in Dharamsala. The 25-year-old was given a three-match ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will miss the third and final Test of the series.
