The versatile and compact slow left arm orthodox spin bowler, Keshav Maharaj started playing cricket in 2006. Born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, he is of Indian ethnicity. Maharaj first made his name in South African cricket when he took 13 wickets in two four day matches in 2010 against Bangladesh A team.
Maharaj had to wait many years to make his international debut for the South African team. His extraordinary performance in the domestic season of 2016-17 earned him a maiden call up from the selectors. During that season in a match against Warriors, he took 13 wickets in a match. Maharaj on his debut test match against Australia, took three crucial wickets.
Just 1 year after his debut, Maharaj took a fifer in a test match against New Zealand. Maharaj’s best bowling figure in test format came against Sri lanka where he took 9 wickets in a single innings. Maharaj’s T20I debut came in 2021, 5 years after his test and 4 years after his ODI debut. His accuracy and commitment to spin bowling made him a successful bowler especially in the test format.
