Early life and career of Jeffrey Dexter Francis Vandersay

Jeffrey Dexter Francis Vandersay was born on the 3rd of January in Sri Lanka to a father who played first-class cricket for Northern Districts and a mother who represented the country at tennis. Jeffrey Vandersay made his first-class debut for Sri Lanka A against Tamil Nadu in March 2007, and his List A debut against Services later that year. He made his ODI debut in September 2007 against Zimbabwe, scoring 57 off 97 balls. He has since cemented himself as one of the leading batsmen in Sri Lanka, and has scored over 2000 runs in just 14 ODIs.

Vandersay is also a formidable bowler, claiming 49 wickets at an average of 30.33 across all formats of the game. His best performance came during the 2013 followed by 2014 ICC World Twenty20 where he claimed 8 wickets at an economy rate of 4.37 in 6 matches.

Born on October 25, 1971, Vandersay represented Western Province in both provincial cricket and first-class cricket. He made his international debut in 1992, playing against India. Vandersay was part of the Sri Lanka side that won the 2000 Cricket World Cup. The following year, he was part of the team that lost to England in the semi-finals of the 2001 Cricket World Cup. He also played for Western Province in domestic cricket until 2007.

Vandersay moved to England to play for Hampshire County Cricket Club from 2007 to 2009. He then returned home to play for Sri Lanka’s national team, which was competing in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
