The current captain of the Irish team Andrew Balbirnie made his debut in 2010 and he has been a brilliant batter since then. He led the Under-19 Irish team in 2009 and under his command, they qualified for the World Cup as well.
He earned the captaincy of the Irish cricket team in 2019. He is a proper strike rotator who plays neat cricketing shots. Balbirnie played his first big knock against Netherlands in the 2017 ICC Intercontinental Cup. He holds 2 centuries in first class cricket and 7 in the ODIs.
Balbirnie was the top scorer of the inter-provincial tournament in 2018. Just in 6 matches he was able to score 262 runs.
He played the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2016 T20I World Cup as well. Balbirnie is one of the experienced players in the Irish team right now. His form sped up after he became the captain. In 2021, he scored a hundred against South Africa and led his team to their first ever ODI victory against South Africa
