Although the chances of Afghanistan’s team to qualify for the semi-final have almost vanished, they’ll be looking to end this tournament on a good note. They are currently in last place in the standings of Group one with just 2 points. Out of their three scheduled matches until now, 1 match got washed out while one match was won by them and in the other they lost.

Though the Afghanistan team lost their opening match against England, they were able to put England in a difficult situation and took the match to the end. It’s known to everyone that Afghanistan has some of the best bowlers especially spinners in their team who can give some extraordinary performances even on the bad days. It’s the batting department where the Afghanistan team struggles.Out of the 105 T02s that Afghanistan has played until now, they were victorious in 68 matches while they lost 35 and 1 match ended in a tie.

Their sloggers, who are Najibullah Zardan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zardan as well have the firepower in their bats. Two Afghani players are in the list of top all-rounders. Muhammad Nabi is on 2nd spot and Rashid Khan, a brilliant leg spinner is on 3rd spot. Rashid’s bowling against England was exceptional where he didn’t get hit for a boundary in his whole spell. Their pace bowlers lack experience and we have seen this in the previous few matches that they played.

With 2 losses, first against Australia and the second against New Zealand and just 1 win against Ireland, Sri Lanka is in 5th spot of Group 1. As we all know group 1 is pretty much open to all teams and mathematically speaking, Sri Lanka aren’t out of the race to qualify for the semi-final.

They are just dependent on other teams to create a situation for them to qualify. Since the start of the World Cup 2022, there have been some notable performances from some Sri Lankan players while some had some bad performances. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka, as we have already seen, can provide explosive opening overs with the bat.

Wanindu Hasaranga, although he had a bad day with bowling against Australia, he can very well destroy the opponents batting line-up on any given day. Bhanuka Rajapaksa provides Sri Lanka with much needed firepower in the middle order. Captain Shanaka is a powerful hitter of the ball who bats at middle order. Pramod Madhushan and Dilshan Madhushanka will handle the pace bowling.

Prediction

Keeping in view the previous track record and the most recent performance we can simply say that the Sri Lanka team is favourite for this contest. But the thing is Afghanistan team can very well surprise Sri Lanka as they have a quality spin bowling attack. The only thing they lack is quality and sensible batters. Otherwise, they have a very strong team which has given tough times to some other World class teams.

While chasing Hazratullah Zazai remained not out with the score of 37. Rahmanullah Gurbaz played an explosive inning and scored 40 runs on just 18 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 3 fours in his inning. All of these players can very well repeat the same performance in this match as well.

The performance of Sri Lankan was not good throughout the match. Only three Sri Lankan batsmen could make two figure scores while batting. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Chamika Karunaratne scored 38 and 31 respectively.

Kusal Mendis could make a big score as there are lots of expectations from him because he scored 6o runs against Bangladesh and took his team to win. Kusal Mendis has 743 runs in 37 T20s with an average of 20.6. He can trouble the Afghanistan team in their 2nd Asia Cup 2022 match. Wanindu Hasaranga could be another player to watch in the contest between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka as he has 65 wickets in just 38 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.70.

Charith Asalanka from Sri Lankan team could trouble Afghanistan too as he has average of 26.2 in T20 with 522 runs in 22 matches. Shanaka scored 45 match winning runs against Bangladesh and made his team win the match. All eyes of Sri Lankan cricket fans will be on these players.

All in all, this will be one hell of an exciting match, as Sri Lanka will be trying to take revenge of the previous match which they lost and Afghanistan team will be striving to maintain their winning streak.

Afghanistan team is looking strong as they have some power hitters in their batting lineup and have quality spinners as well such as Rashid Khan and Mujeeb-ur-Rehman who could make things difficult for Sri Lanka but Sri Lanka can surprise Afghanistan as they are thirsty to take the revenge of the humiliating defeat they got against Afghanistan in the 1st match.
