Frederick Jack Klaassen was born on December 9, 1961, in the Netherlands. He is a retired professional soccer player who played for clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, Barcelona and Manchester United. Klaassen made his professional debut with Ajax Amsterdam in 1980 at the age of 16. He went on to play for Barcelona (1981-1987), Manchester United (1988-1990) and Celtic (1991). He won five Premier League titles with Manchester United, as well as the 1990 FA Cup. In total, Klaassen made 275 appearances and scored 44 goals during his career. After retiring from playing, Klaassen became a coach at several clubs including Ajax Amsterdam (1994-1998), Feyenoord Rotterdam (1998-2000), AZ Alkmaar (2000-2004) and NEC Nijmegen (2005-2010). In 2010, he took up a role as technical director at the Dutch national team.

The following month he made his Premier League debut in a 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur and went on to make 33 appearances during his debut season as Saints finished in eighth position. His final season at Southampton was blighted by injuries which saw him make only 13 appearances but helped them reach the FA Cup Final where they lost 2–1 to Manchester United.

On 31 January 2019, Everton announced that they had signed Klaassen from Southampton on a four-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.[3]
