Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva, also known as Dhananjaya de Silva is a Sri Lanka cricketer who plays for the national cricket team in all formats. He bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off break. He was born on 5th November 1990 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He made his international debut against India in the 2012–13 ICC World Twenty20. De Silva has also represented the Sri Lankan cricket team in the 2013 World Cup, 2015 ICC World Twenty20 and 2017 ICC World Twenty20.

Early life and career of Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva

Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva was born on 15th February 1988 in Hambantota, Sri Lanka. He debuted for the Sri Lanka national cricket team in the 2006 ICC Trophy and first played international One Day Internationals in 2007. De Silva has since made over 200 appearances for his country, including 53 Tests and 100 ODIs.

De Silva began his professional cricketing career with the Boland Cavaliers in South Africa, before moving to Australia to sign with the Melbourne Stars. In 2013 he signed a three-year contract with Cricket Australia and joined Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in India for the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL). In December 2015, De Silva announced his retirement from international cricket after playing 74 Tests and 117 ODIs.

In February 2016 Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva married television presenter Sangeetha Weeraratne at a private ceremony at their home in Colombo. The couple have a daughter named Vedanthi.

In February 2018, he was named the captain of Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2018 ICC World T20 tournament.

Dhananjaya started playing cricket at a young age and represented both schools and clubs in Kandy. He made his first-class debut for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club in 2011 and then represented Colombo Cricket Club in 2012-13. The following year, he made his international debut against Zimbabwe at Lilawaththu Stadium scoring 28 runs off 27 balls with a strike rate of 148.76 as part of an innings victory by Sri Lanka by 235 runs. He followed up this performance with a century against Afghanistan at the SSC Stadium in Colombo which helped Sri Lanka to win the series 2-1.
