The second largest cricket Stadium, Melbourne cricket Ground (MCG), that is located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria was built in 1852 but with time, it got renovated and some changes occurred in it.
The MCG has the capacity to fit 100,024 people inside it. That is a big number. The very first game was played here in 1853 while the first test match was played in 1877 between England and Australia. MCG also hosted the two World Cups, 1992 and 2015. The very first ODI played here was in 1971 between England and Australia while it hosted it’s maiden T20I in 2008.
The MCG has hosted many test matches since then. 114 test matches have been played here thus far, 56 were won by the team batting first while 41 by bowling 1st.
MCG holds the honour of hosting the very first ODI played in the world and since then, it has hosted 151 ODI matches. Again, team batting first won 74 while bowling 1st won 73 matches.
The MCG is one of the toughest grounds to play on. Even in T20I format, the average first innings score here is just 139. 10 out 18 T20Is played here were won by team bowling first.
MCG hosts drop-in pitches and the pacer bowler gets advantage here as compared to spin bowler.
