Phil Salt was born on 2nd March 1987 in Bournemouth, England. He began playing cricket at an early age and progressed through the youth system of Hampshire Cricket Club. He made his first-class debut for Hampshire in 2006 and has since played for the county side in all but one season. In total, he has scored over 2,000 first-class runs and taken over 100 wickets. In 2009, Salt joined the English side Worcestershire County Cricket Club and spent two seasons with them before moving to Somerset County Cricket Club in 2011. He has since played for both sides and is currently contracted to Somerset until the end of the 2016 season.

Salt represented England at Under-19 level before making his full international debut for England against India in 2007.
