Mitchell Santner was born on 20th February 1991 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He started playing cricket at the age of six and went on to play for both his school and club teams before making his debut for the New Zealand national team in 2010. Santner made his first-class debut the following year and has since played a key role in the side,captaining them in 2014.

Santner’s career began in earnest during the 2013-14 season when he hit 540 runs at an average of 53.33, including a score of 227 not out against South Africa A. This performance saw him named Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC) Young Cricketers’ Award committee and earned him selection for New Zealand’s squad for the 2014 World T20 tournament. With a very sluggish action and variation in his spin bowling, Mitchell Santner has been an important part of the New Zealand spin bowling attack. After Nathon McCullum and Daniel Vettori, he is their top quality spin bowler.

His magnificent performance in 2014-15 domestic season in New Zealand earned him a call from the selectors and he made his international debut in 2015 against England and managed to take 1 wicket and was quite impressive with the bat as well, scoring 28 runs in a single over. In the same year, he made his test debut as well.

One of his best performances till date was against India. He took 4 wickets by just conceding 11 runs and took his team to the victory. He also managed to be included into the “Team of the Tournament” of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He was in the New Zealand squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup as well as 2021 T20 World Cup

Santner  plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He has been with them since 2019. He played the CPL 2020 as well. His ability to trick his opponents with carrom ball and ooff-spi makes him a very fine bowler.
